    Abstract

In the opening pages of Phillipa McGuinnesss The Year Everything Changed: 2001, I was reminded that I bear a small amount of responsibility for the genesis of this book. McGuinness relates that the idea germinated when she was attending a conference at the Australian National University in Canberra early in 2014. I was one of the organisers of this gathering of the historical clan honouring one of the countrys finest historians, Alan Atkinson. McGuinness is a respected publisher; Atkinson is one of her authors.
