    Abstract

A theory of the pulse shepherding effect, when the large-amplitude pulse controls and steers other pulses via an induced waveguide, is presented. The structure and stability of the multimode multi-wavelength wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) solitons are described. The influence of the walk-off effect on the stability and robustness of the WDM multi-component solitons is also discussed.
