Abstract
This chapter is an introduction to translingual memoir. The main focus is texts written in English, such as Leila Ahmeds A Border Passage, and book-length narratives, although essays are also discussed. The chapter concludes with a brief overview of translingual memoirs in some other European languages. I argue from examples that translingual memoirs tend to identify translingual experience with transcultural experience.
