Abstract
This is an article about two intertwined topics: federalism and transportation. It is also an article about two intertwined unions (in a political, economic, and cultural sense at least): the European Union and the United States of America. Transportation policy making in the two “unions” is compared and some potential lessons about how to best organize central government transportation policy are drawn out.
