Abstract
This chapter seeks to explore and interrogate the range and content of traditional and contemporary regulation and governance for urban sustainability and resilience (to the extent possible in a short contribution; an extensive discussion is available in van der Heijden 2014). In the conclusion, it touches on some important issues that regulatory scholars may wish to take up in future studies, including the changing role of cities in governing urban sustainability and resilience. Throughout the chapter, it becomes clear, also, that cities and the built environment more generally are intriguing areas for regulatory scholarshipyet, they have received strikingly limited attention from regulatory scholars to date.
