(Ver-)Handlungsräume von Sexualwissenschaft und Psychoanalyse: englischsprachige Organisationen und Zeitschriften der Zwischenkriegszeit

Summary: Trading zones of sexual science and psychoanalysis: English-speaking organizations and journals of the interwar period. While the distinction between German-language psychoanalysis and sexual science had become more or less firmly established by the 1920s, the English-speaking world offered new possibilities not only for bringing these two branches of sexual theory into conversation with one another, but also for communicating their findings to a broad readership. Taking as case studies a series of organizations (British Society of Sex Psychology, World League for Sexual Reform), journals (Psyche and Eros, Journal of Sexology and Psychanalysis), and actors (notably Wilhelm Stekel, Samuel Tannenbaum, and William Robinson), this article uses the concept of »trading zones« to investigate these processes of linguistic, cultural, and cross-disciplinary communication and translation during the interwar years.
