    Abstract

Together with significant economic development after the reform in 1986 known as Doi Moi, Vietnam has been facing severe environmental pollution. It was the second most air polluted country in Southeast Asia in 2019, behind Indonesia. Exceeding the World Health Organization (WHO) guideline on outdoor air pollution reduces life expectancy in Vietnam by about one year and costs the country about 5% of annual GDP.2 Around 50,000 deaths were related to air pollution in Vietnam in 2017.3
