    Abstract

Being feminist has always been dangerous inside and outside the academy. Those of us who do identify as feminist are keenly aware that in todays cut-throat, bean counting, neoliberal environment, we have to run fast and smart to keep one compassionate and two collective steps ahead of those who would otherwise send us into exile. What then, happens to feminism in university organisations, and what can the experiences of gender studies academics teach us about how we inhabit institutions and about contemporary institutional life?
