Abstract
Through its technology companies’ increasing global market share, China has gained significant influence over the global governance of AI. But there are concerns that Chinese technology companies are facilitating authoritarian applications of AI around the world. While multilateral efforts to shape AI norms continue, the commercial interests of Chinese firms and the diverse applications of their technologies may hinder the establishment of global agreements on key governance issues.
