Abstract
This article examines the importance of philosophy in politics and political analysis. It discusses the nature of philosophy and the prospect for a philosophy of politics and explains that philosophy is an attempt to think explicitly and rationally about matters on which one cannot help but have implicit commitments. It outlines the six domains of inquiry consistent with the general view of philosophical reasoning. These include the philosophy of nature, the philosophy of value, and the philosophy of society.
