    Abstract

This is a young adult novel that describes the struggles of a young character who needs to overcome the overprotecting behaviour of a busybody and overbearing mother. In his path to emotional independence, he meets a variety of mythical-like characters.
he novel follows the traditional bildungsroman (or coming of age) narrative paradigm until the last two chapters, where Zen-like paradoxes are used to force a resolution of the circular plot. There are several narrative innovations, including chained proairetic codes, archetypical recursive actants, the use of different dialects of Spanish in different settings, and three “mise en abyme” story levels. The illustrations where also created in three different pictorial styles, which work in tandem with the narrative story levels.
The novel was jointly published by Ediciones del Boulevard, a commercial publisher in Argentina, and Encuentro Publishing, a community organisation publishing venture, in Australia. In Argentina, it has generated interviews in radio cultural programs (including a radio station owned by the National University of Córdoba) and inclusion in the Córdoba Book Fair. In Canberra, it was launched in the Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre, owned by the ACT Government.
